What is Gynotal Obstetric Gel?

It is a specially developed lubricant to ease natural birth process. It is highly bioadhesive and has a high water binding capacity. It neutralizes the internal vaginal friction and facilitates the baby to glide out smoothly. It is sterile, non-allergenic and does not irritate the eyes or the skin of the baby.

What are the benefits of using Gynotal Obstetric Gel?

Natural childbirth is easier and more comfortable because it reduces the friction between the birth canal and the baby and accelerates the birth process. It significantly reduces perineal tears (P=0.024) and reduces the 2^nd stage of labor by 30%. The unborn child, vagina, pelvic floor and perineum of the mother are protected. It aids and eases deliveries for which a vacuum pump or forceps are used.

Dosing and Application

• On 1^st vaginal examination – introduce 3mls of gel using elastic applicator provided.
• At every subsequent examination, apply an additional 3mls of obstetric gel.
• If vaginal canal is dry, add sufficient fluid with gel. Sodium chloride or any aseptic solution can be used
• Add more gel after 15 to 30 minutes after amniotic sac ruptures.

Stage A gel – 1^st stage during first stage of labor

Stage B gel – 2^nd stage of labor – expulsion phase

Obstetric gel should be used during the entire duration of labor. Average required dose is between 10mls to 30mls per birth.
