Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so it is important not to skip it. However, it is also the rush hour of the day hence it can be quite a challenge to prepare a good breakfast. Busy parents like me can always use some quick and simple breakfast ideas to keep our family going throughout the day.

Egg Bread Cup Toast - Simple and effortless breakfast idea.

Today I am sharing this super simple and effortless breakfast idea - Egg Bread Cup Toast. The basic ingredients needed for this are bread, egg, butter and cheese. You may add sausages and some greens into the mix but for today, I will just use the basic stuffs.

My choice of bread is always wholemeal bread. Wholemeal bread is made from whole grain kernel hence it contains more nutrients and requires longer time to digest compared to white bread. This also means wholemeal bread keeps us feeling full and satiated for much longer, too.

Eggs are also part of my breakfast repertoire. They are tasty and packed with protein to help sustain our energy level throughout the day. Best of all, eggs are pretty affordable and versatile with endless recipes to cook them making them the egg-cellent choice for a quick and healthy breakfast.

Super simple yet deliciously nutritious egg bread cup toast.

    Egg Bread Cup Toast Recipe

    • 2 large eggs
    • 2 slices cheese
    • 8 slices wholemeal bread
    • 1 tbsp butter

    1. Preheat oven to 190C.

    2. Break eggs into a bowl.

    3. Whisk the egg.

    4. Flatten bread using a rolling pin.

    5. Spread butter onto flattened bread.

    6. Tear bread into half.

    7. Place bread into a muffin tray.

    8. Press with fork to secure.

    9. Scoop egg into bread cups.

    10. Top with cheese. You may use any types of cheese for this. I used cheddar cheese slices as these are the only cheese I have in my kitchen at this moment.

    11. Bake in a preheated oven at 190C for 20 minutes or until the cheese turns brown.

    12. Serve.

Extremely simple, isn't it? Just prepare these and pop them into the oven while you carry on with other urgent morning tasks. You'll get a delicious and satisfying breakfast in no time once you hear the oven bell ring.

    1. Congratulations on winning the Motherhood Choice Awards 2021: First-Choice Soy Milk! Please tell us a bit about your brand vision and how long you have been in the industry.

Firstly, thank you to Motherhood.com.my and all who voted for us. We are honoured to be awarded the Motherhood Choice Awards 2021: First-Choice Soy Milk. HOMESOY Original was launched in October 2007. The brand name ‘HOMESOY’ denotes a home-style recipe, naturalness and authenticity. HOMESOY has been a market leader in the soy milk category, unique from others with its home-style recipe that is well accepted by the soy drinking culture of Malaysians.

    2. Could you share with us a little on the R&D behind your award-winning product?

Ace Canning Sdn Bhd has been known as a leading manufacturer of Asian beverages for years, with brands like Drinho under its umbrella. After years of experience in the Asian beverage category, it was also observed that besides Chrysanthemum tea, the next most consumed beverage is soy milk. The inspiration to produce HOMESOY is due to the lack of availability of such home-made taste recipe in the market. This led to the development of HOMESOY Original with the objective of offering consumers an authentic and home-made taste soy milk in Ready to Drink format.

    3. What makes your product different from other competing brands in your category?

What sets HOMESOY apart from our peers in the soy category asides from its unique recipe is that it’s beyond soy milk. It is reminiscent of home and family, which gives users a gentle, caring experience whenever they drink HOMESOY. The brand aspiration is to be the Soy Specialist bringing new innovations to consumers with the spin-off of some Malaysian-favourite flavours such as Brown Sugar, Honey Melon, No Sugar Added, and Multigrain for the health conscious consumers. Other than Ready to Drink formats, HOMESOY is also available in instant beverage (powder) for those who prefer a delicious cup of warm and convenient soy milk.

How Do I Bond With My Baby? — 7 Things To Do Together
    Sarah
    October 13, 2021
    4 min
We all know that babies are dependent on tender loving care to develop a healthy attachment to their caregivers. Although bath time can be rather tedious at times, why not use bath time to create a healthy attachment and build trust while caring for your child? During bath times is one of the best time to care for your baby as there is a lot of skin-to-skin contact.

As bath time is an everyday thing, the daily bath routine provides the perfect opportunity to give some mindful care to your baby. This optimises their future health and development as well as nonverbal language.

How To Use Bath Time To Bond With Your Baby?

    Have heart-to-heart conversations

You may think your baby does not know what you are talking about, but you would be surprised! Talk about what you are doing, describe how you are washing your baby, what makes you happy, your feelings and so on. Speak in adult language and not baby-talk so that your baby picks up linguistic skills faster but remember to maintain eye contact, smile and speak in a rhythmical, sing-song way for your baby to respond better.

    Play together

Fill the tub with bath toys and water pouring tools. Add some gentle wash and have fun! The more fun you have, the stronger the bond that is built.

    Give your baby a massage

Skin-to-skin contact between you and baby is already there during bath time. The physical contact helps your baby feel safe and is important to build attachment and trust. During the bath, gently stroke and massage your baby’s arms, legs and back. The massage will soothe your baby and calm him down.

    Sing songs together

A fun way to play with your baby safely in the bath is by singing songs. The songs will build language skills and musical appreciation as well as develop his hearing skills. Encourage your baby to babble along with you and splash some water around to a beat if your baby enjoys that.

    Use mild washes

The gentleness associated with mild washes like the QV Baby Gentle Wash combined with the warm and cosy bathroom helps calm your baby.

    Create a bath time ritual

While most bath time rituals are varied, bath time always consist of two main components, namely:

    1.      Cleansing

Using baby wash is a necessary part of bath times to remove impurities left behind by diapers and clothes. Harsh soap may possibly irritate your baby’s skin, especially if your little one is prone to sensitive skin issues. Instead, use a gentle wash that helps to protect your baby’s skin barrier such as the QV Baby Gentle Wash.

    2.      Moisturising

Some babies might have dry or sensitive skin so the use of a moisturising cream like the QV Baby Moisturising Cream can help ease dry skin conditions, ensuring long hydration and protection. Massaging the cream into your baby’s skin also requires skin-to-skin contact, creating bonding moments.

COVID-19: BioNTech Declares Pfizer Jab Safe for Children
    Amira Jeffrey
    September 22, 2021
    1 min
On the 20th of September 2021, BioNTech and Pfizer shared with the world groundbreaking news pertaining to their COVID-19 vaccination development milestones.

Pfizer jabs safe for children between 5 to 11 years old are set for distribution as soon as next month! This discovery came just in time to remedy recent concerns regarding a surge in COVID-19 child fatalities.

Since early this year, the vaccination rollouts excluded children below the age of 12 years old.

The fact was, little was known about how the virus and vaccine may affect children compared to adolescents and adults.

Children pose a lower immunity level in contrast to adults who require 30 micrograms of dosage each. Therefore, it was vital to first decide on the accurate vaccination dosages compatible with their immunity level.

The excellent news is the Pfizer vaccine for children 5 to 11 years yielded triumphant results!

Phase 2/3 of BioNTech's vaccination trial paves solid hope to best shield the little ones from the raging virus. The 10 micrograms dose generated robust antibody responses in the 2,268 participants of children.

The children were administered two dosages between a period of 21 days. After a month, these children aged 5 to 11, displayed side effects comparable to older vaccinated individuals.

In other words, this dosage of Pfizer vaccine is as safe for children, as they are for adults. They share the same safety profile and are, therefore, compatible with children's tolerance towards the vaccination.

According to both companies, the vaccine may be authorised for use in a matter of weeks once submitted to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Additionally, BioNTech and Pfizer are reportedly expected to have immunity results for toddlers, 2 to 5 years, and 6 months to 2 years old, by the fourth quarter of the year.

The COVID-19 virus may have lingered longer than expected, but it definitely does not overshadow relentless efforts to mitigate its spread. Let us all keep our chins up, shoulders squared, and hopes high as we embark on the next phases of recovery!

COVID-19: Tighter SOPs for Schools Reopening on October 3
    Amira Jeffrey
    September 24, 2021
    2 min

The Malaysian government has prepared a list of standard operating procedures (SOP) in regards to the reopening of schools on the 3rd of October 2021.

With schools closed and classes moved to the virtual space, we eventually discovered online learning (PdPR), came with a series of pros and cons. The reality is, over 5 million students come from a spectrum of socioeconomic backgrounds.

Not everyone has the luxury of decent gadgets and access to the internet in order to benefit from online classes. This accessibility is reflective of those with privilege and those without.

Education Minister, Datuk Dr. Radzi Jidin announced the decision to reopen schools was made in the best interest of students. It is necessary for all students to once again familiarise themselves with the education system. Those needing to catch up with extra tutoring will benefit from the extended school calendar.

Here are some key information to take note of pertaining to the tightened SOP for schools according to the Ministry of Education, Malaysia:

    • The current academic year is extended to March 2022 and students will remain in their respective years and forms till then.

    • School attendance is capped at 50% for all students except those in Phase 1 states. Classrooms are halved and these two groups are to attend classes in school every alternate two weeks.

    • Parents can choose to allow or pull their children from attending schools physically if in fear of COVID-19 transmission. Simply attach a letter of explanation for the school, should they wish to opt out.

    • Unvaccinated teachers are not allowed to return to classrooms.

    • Co-curriculum activities are not allowed but Physical Education (PJK) is. Students are required to don their sport attires from home instead of in school.

    • Mealtimes allowed only in classrooms unless air-conditioned.

Every state will differ in procedures in accordance to which phase of recovery they are in:

Life outdoors may have seemed like a faraway possibility for the longest time, but not anymore.

This month alone, we have witnessed our nation take strides into our path towards COVID-19 recovery.

Not to mention, Malaysia has finally reached the targeted 80% herd immunity of the adult population this week and has hit a new low in COVID-19 cases for the first time since July.

Fully vaccinated individuals can now enjoy dining in, mall trips, and even domestic travels (to travel bubble states like Langkawi, Kedah). Additionally, our children are now buzzing with preparation for the reopening of schools in the coming month.

Slowly but surely, we are growing more hopeful for the nation's recovery from COVID-19 as we gradually return to normalcy.

As our nation pursues a new phase of the National Recovery Plan, our primary responsibility now lies in playing our respective roles in order to ease into life outdoors with minimum risk of catching COVID-19.
